Our client wanted to ship 11,000 tons of urea from UAE to a farm located 900km inland in Sudan. The customer had never shipped such cargo before, as they were experienced only in containerized shipments. Hence, customer was leaning towards containerization. Client was looking for a practically feasible cost-effective solution.
Our Solution
Due to the volume, practical difficulties and high costs in containerization we proposed to ship in bulk, bag in to 50 Kg bags while discharging and deliver by truck. After several meetings client accepted our proposal. We were appointed as freight forwarders , consultants and on-site project manages to direct the Sudan operation.
The Challenges
Pre-discharge permission from multiple government authorities within the relatively short sea transit of 10 days to POD. Berth limitations due to on wharf bagging operation. Potential vessel detention due to berthing delays, ramadan working hours and pre-arrival permission delays, shortage of trucks.
The Result
11,000 tons of Urea were delivered to the site in 36 days from the date of loading at POL. Sea passage on the charter vessel was 4380 KM (es). 141 trucks were used to deliver cargo to the farm (about 900 km inland)
